Frequently asked Water Questions and Answers
Why use bacteria treatments for Algal growth instead of chemical treatments?
-Basically chemicals treatments are the solution for a “quick fix” and bacteria treatments are the long term solution. Chemical treatments can be toxic to your aquatic animals if overdosed. Chemical treatments usually result in an instant “kill” which can easily foul water; clog filters and creates additional costs in water changes and labor. Bacteria, eliminates algal problems by out competing it through its food source. The bacteria immediately start ingesting the phosphates and organics in the water faster than the problematic algae can. No food no growth.
Why use bacteria treatments for water clarity instead of chemical treatments?
-Basically chemicals treatments are the solution for a quick fix and bacteria treatments are the long term solution. Chemicals treatments act as a flocculent. They bind small particles in the water column to form larger particles that the filter can easily pull out.
This results in increased filter media changes or water loss from backwashing. Also the majority of larger binded particles fall through the water column to the bottom of the system causing another problem of sludge. Bacteria, not only binds to smaller particles but metabolizes them into harmless compounds of CO2 and H2O eliminating them from the system. They also act as a sludge reducer, preventing and digesting future and current problems.
What if I don’t know the how many gallons my system is?
We have provided a basic formula for calculating the gallonage of your system. Please see ___________. However a general estimate will do. All our products are 100% safe to ALL aquatic life. You cannot overdose your system. In fact if you are not seeing the desired results double the recommended dosage. It is only a general guide line.
When and how often do I add the bacteria products to my pond?
After the initial dose we recommend once a week for one month. After that a monthly addition for maintenance is all that’s needed. Remember to never add your bacterial products to chlorinated water or water filtered through ultra violet sterilization. These will destroy your additions immediately.
